A Family Affair: Being Introduced to Spirituality

Since I was a child my grandmother accompanied me in my first steps towards spirituality.

Spirituality has always been an area that has fascinated me. Not only spirituality but from a young age, I was also interested in magic, ancient legends and beliefs, witches, and spells…

On a personal level while on vacation with my grandparents, I saw my grandmother draw tarot cards for my family members in the evening... It always seemed very secret and mysterious to me.

After several years of asking her what she was doing, she offered to draw the cards for me. At first, of course, I was reluctant. But after explaining to me some basics on the principle of drawing cards with the Marseille tarot she is using, and after some personal research at the same time, I learned that it could be taken as an aid, a daily guidance. The Tarot de Marseille is one of the oldest and most emblematic tarot decks since 1760, used primarily for divination, personal introspection and spiritual development. It consists of 78 cards divided into major and minor arcana.

The 22 major arcana, such as Le Bateleur or La Papesse, represent significant aspects of human experience, offering insight into the major forces and influences in a person's life. The 56 minor arcana are divided into four suites: swords, staffs, cups and denarii, each associated with an aspect of life, such as intellect, action, emotions and the material. The Tarot de Marseille is renowned for its symbolic and meaningful illustrations, offering depth of understanding and multiple levels of interpretation.

I decided to finally take the plunge, alongside my grandmother who has been doing this for many years now. My grandmother always had a strong intuition. Even though it may seem strange to some, she has had “feelings” and visions since she was young, what we might call “clairvoyance” and “clairaudience”. She trained by reading and discussing with people who share what she experiences.

Since then, she has taught me a lot of things- what the pendulum was, that there are many different tarot cards to use, including the oracles... and that some members of my family have gifts such as using the pendulum, and practice remote healing and fortune-telling. I believe that I have no reason to be “afraid” of it and that we can talk about it freely.

I was finally in! It was the beginning of my spiritual awakening. I am delighted that she shares her knowledge with me. My first tarot deck was given to me by my friend Laurel. She now accompanies me to the four corners of the world!

This door has been opened to me and I am now educating myself on many subjects: sabbaths, precious stones, runes, nature, astrology, moon cycles... And I would be delighted to share my knowledge with you in future articles.

This practice has become part of my daily routine. I love learning about myself and the world around me. I regularly do exercises in personal development, meditation, visualization and manifestation. All this learning intertwines and helps me to become the person I am and aspire to be.
